Why do metalcore/scene/indie kids stick to their respective groups?

People who alter their physical image in order to conform to a social group, think that is the only way to "express themselves" or "be true to themselves". Which, as you know, since you can be "true to yourself" without doing that, is totally untrue. They have bought into this lie, and when they look at you, it may make them feel bad because you didn't need to do all these extravagant body modifications to be "you". Bravo to you for not conforming to them.
